In October we decided to take the kids down to Sand Hollow Reservoir for one last outing on the boat. We got there after dark, which made things a little more difficult for Brian + Zach to get everything set-up. The girls were so excited to see that there was sand everywhere, they took their flip-flops off and started marching all around the campsite. Well, before I knew it, Tess was shining a flashlight down on the ground and asking "What's this?" Zach took a look, got his hammer + proceeded to smash the heck out of the SCORPION. I was freaking out and yelling for all the girls to get their flip-flops back on and get in the truck. Well, we eventually got out of the truck...we just spent the rest of the evening sitting around the campfire talking until we were all ready to go to bed. Brian cooked us all a yummy breakfast and we headed straight for the lake. I wasn't going to journal this, but...I do need to mention that I got yelled at by a Park Ranger for letting Zach ride the boat trailer out of the water (I didn't know he was still on it + I was FURIOUS!) For those of you that know me well enough, you know I was bawling and livid by the time I got down to the lake to get on the boat. Well, after about 45 minutes of me sitting by myself in the bow and reading my book, I was over it. The kids had a blast and it was absolutely GOR.GEOUS! We ate lunch on the boat and then Brian and Zach swam over to the rocks to fish. After their fill of fishing, they swam back to join us in the boat. Brian, while he was sliding down the slippery red rocks, managed to slice his foot open. It was nasty! I bandaged it up for him and he was fine...we were all a little grossed out though!
We went back to the campsite, Brian grilled tri-tip for dinner, and then I headed to the showers to get the girls ready to go into town to watch a movie. Well, while we were in the showers, Brian + Zach decided to walk down to the shore and do some more fishing. Right as we were all drying off and getting dressed, the girls and I heard sand pelting the door and the wind was howling like crazy! It was pouring by the time we got back to our site, and our wonderful tent was ripped to shreds. Brian + Zach were throwing everything in the back of our truck and in the boat and by the time we all got everything taken down, we were all soaked to the bone and covered in sand. We still took the kids to see Secretariat (we were all huddled together and freezing in the theater while eating our popcorn), and then we got a room in St. George for the night. The girls went swimming the next morning while Brian + Zach re-organized the truck and boat, and then we headed home.
It ended up being quite an adventure, but we had sooo much fun together! I am so grateful to have such a wonderful family and a husband who plans and works hard to make these fun little excursions possible. Love to all, Kim
